The presentations of the speakers attended the seminar “Towards a pact for biodiversity in the Mediterranean” organized by LIFE Greenchange are available.
The seminar was held on 10 May in online mode, focusing the concept of land stewardship and the role of farmers in this relevant task.
The exchange during the meeting was fruitful: the Green New Deal outlines a renewed role for farmers within the new Common Agricultural Policy and the new EU Biodiversity Strategy stresses the role of sustainable farming for protecting species and restoring habitats. Basing on the outcomes of LIFE Greenchange project in Italy, the seminar discussed the opportunities for promoting land stewardship in the renewed European framework.
There were also reflections on the additional conditions necessary to make possible the rooting of good practices and the strengthening of the role of farmers in the sustainable management of the territory, thanks to the interventions of the projects LIFE Orchids, LIFE Olivares Vivos, LIFE AgriCOlture, which like LIFE Greenchange , are developing experience and land stewardship models.
We talked about it during the various sessions of the seminar with CINEA – European Commission, LANDCARE Europe, IUCN – Center for Mediterranean Cooperation and National Rural Network, XarXa for nature conservation, analyzing the potential of the Mediterranean area and examining the role of public and private institutions in signing these agreements and in the path we would like to promote towards the Pact for Biodiversity, the document of intent signed in 2020 by LIFE Greenchange project with local actors.
